If you use this pattern, please let the recipient know what it says, and in what code! Otherwise, your geeky goodness is likely to go unnoticed. The Morse code on this version of the cap is fair isle, rather than the purl bumps in the previous version. That makes the code more visible, but still not that obvious.
Knots of Love loved this pattern.
To enable a fair-isle hem and encase floats, the cap features a doubled hem.
Here are a few finished caps:
You and a friend can knit caps sharing supplies—two 16" circular needles, a smaller gauge circular needle to use as a stitch holder, scissors, tapestry needle, and two balls of yarn.
Shams Zakhour blogged about our experience pair knitting these caps. We used the supplies I brought for myself on a business trip. After the hem was done, Shams and I each took one ball and worked separately on our hats until the top, when we needed each others' 16" needles to do the last few rounds.
Shams and I started knitting in OAK airport. |
We continued knitting as time permitted. |
And finished on the plane ride home. |
